  4. Minor in Africana Studies

The Africana Studies minor introduces students to the examination and study of global Black history and contemporary Black people鈥檚 experiences. Interdisciplinary in its design, the minor provides both a historical and a contemporary understanding of African diasporic people鈥檚 history, politics, and cultural contributions.

Careers

An undergraduate minor in Africana Studies complements a wide range of majors and prepares graduates for careers that value cultural awareness, critical thinking, and social justice. Graduates may pursue roles in education, community organizing, public policy, social services, media, or nonprofit work. The minor also strengthens communication and research skills, making it valuable in law, journalism, and graduate study. Employers in government, advocacy organizations, and cultural institutions increasingly seek candidates with knowledge of African and African Diaspora histories, cultures, and contemporary social issues.
