The minor in Adapted Physical Activity and Sport serves students interested in working with individuals with disabilities in physically active environments and the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively plan, lead and evaluate physical activity programs that meet the participants' varying needs and interests. An emphasis will be placed on motor functioning, activity, and sport modifications and adaptations.

This 19-credit interdisciplinary program combines the expertise of the and the Department of Recreation, Tourism and Management's Therapeutic Recreation program.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt and modify individual and group activities and sports programs.
  • Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of disability in general and familiarity with varying groups encountered by those seeking to participate in physical activity.
  • Demonstrate the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate individual and group physical activity and sports.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of risk management and injury prevention techniques as applied to the provision of various modified and/or physical activity or sports.
